HANKOOK W429A Winter I * Pike X is a winter tire with a directional symmetrical tread pattern, which is designed for operation in low temperatures. The manufacturer assures that this model is designed specifically for the harsh winter conditions of the Nordic countries. Thanks to a new tread design with an increased number of studs, as well as a new rubber compound, the HANKOOK W429A Winter I * Pike X demonstrates excellent performance on all winter surfaces and provides flawless braking and stability on snowy and icy roads with low rolling resistance.
For several years, the developers have been to the cherished goal - to create a perfect winter
tires for cars of class ZU and light trucks that would combine the highest safety, comfort, and ease of use management.
Excellent braking, powerful traction and confident predictable behavior in any road conditions - these are indicative characteristics of tires
The HANKOOK W429A Winter I * Pike X winter tire has a unique design optimized for winter driving. A special feature of the model is the symmetrical directional tread pattern, which combines a combination of lines and curves to provide the most balanced winter performance.
The HANKOOK W429A Winter I * Pike X winter tire has many innovations. The special rubber compound with a high content of carbon black performs excellently in a wide range of freezing temperatures, which significantly improves braking and traction on snow by increasing the contact patch with the surface. The seamless polymer reinforcement belt increases tread strength, while the wide steel belt ensures optimal rigidity and improved handling. The optimized polyester yarn carcass increases the strength of the sidewalls. A stiffened bead filler improves steering response, while a heavy-duty bead ring ensures a secure fit of the tire on the rim.
The model replaced the rather popular winter tire HANKOOK, W419 Winter, I * Pike RS, has a speed index T (120 mi / h) and has been available in retail sales since autumn 2018 in a wide range of sizes.
Features of the tread pattern of the HANKOOK W429A Winter I * Pike X:
Increased number of blocks
The symmetrical directional tread pattern with 9% more blocks than the previous generation helps to “bite” into the snow as efficiently as possible and improves traction.
Figure Snow Slit
The innovative Snow Slit tread pattern ("snow slot" design) provides superior traction on ice.
Two-in-one shoulder block
Unique shoulder block design and open shoulder area maximize water and slush drainage from the contact patch.
Zig-zag grooves
Zig-zag tread grooves provide improved traction in deep snow.
Wide central blocks
Wide blocks in the center of the tread improve traction on snow and ice.
New studying technology
Application of special thorns constructions
* Prevents the spike from rotating in the tread
* Provides a secure fit of the studs
Special rubber compound mixes
* Prevents penetration
studs inside the tire structure,
thereby ensuring
operational safety.
New studding formula
12-row studying allows a significant improvement in performance braking and traction on ice and In the snow.
Central stiffener
The central rib of the special serrated shape improves controllability and exchange rate resistance and also enhances cravings.
Special groove shape
* Improved braking on snow
* Improved drainage of water and snow from
tire contact patches
Increased treadmill width
Effective tire-to-road contact patch increased by 8% - this made it possible to achieve more effective grip and braking on snowy and icy roads.
Computer modeling
Application of computer modeling technologies allowed to achieve optimal pressure distribution in the contact patch of the tire with the road, which provides both improved traction and braking, and high-precision handling and directional stability in any road conditions.
The Hankook Winter I * Pike X W429a tire performs fairly well on dry surfaces as well. The design of the "legs" and the reinforcement of the side walls optimize the twisting forces and guarantee a direct response of the winter tires to maneuvers. The modern tread design and the use of high-quality components mean that braking distances are reduced.
Features of winter tires Hankook Winter I * Pike X W429a:
- The individual tread elements of the tire, grooves, and sipes, are arranged in a "V" shape. Winter tire manufacturers often use this solution because it guarantees excellent performance (especially short braking distances) on wet roads.
- The Hankook Winter I * Pike X W429a tire has up to 74 studs on the tread. The predecessor has much less of them (58). The goal of this solution is to effectively bite into snow and thus improve performance on winter surfaces.
- The length of the transverse edges is increased by 14%.
- The length of the longitudinal edges is increased by 23%.
Another improvement over its predecessor can be seen in the increased number of 3D cuts on the tire tread surface. More 3D block notches mean more rigidity and therefore much more stable machining.
Another very important element of the tire is the longer (compared to the previous model) annular grooves. Their volume has been increased, resulting in an increased contact area between the tire and the road, better contact on snow, and greater resistance to wet slip.
The tread blocks on Hankook Winter I * Pike X W429a winter tires have a special Snow Slit shape. They are an important element of the tire, which is responsible for the safety on icy roads when cornering. Thanks to these blocks, the car maintains a high level of grip even in the most adverse conditions.
