Yokohama Geolandar M / T G003 is an all-season mud tire with a non-directional symmetrical tread for 4x4 vehicles and pickups. In 2017, the Japanese manufacturer promised a global distribution of this model with first-order availability in the Japanese market.
Tires Yokohama Geolandar M / T G003 (Yokohama Geolandar M T G 003) appeared as a result of the growing worldwide demand for tires adapted for full off-road use for pickups and SUVs, as a replacement for the 2004 Yokohama Geolandar M / T + G001C. Thanks to the efforts of Yokohama engineers, the model has an aggressive tread design that will attract the attention of off-road enthusiasts. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account, the technical specialist Shina. Guide notes, that the "exterior" is not all the advantages of the tire.
Features of mud rubber Yokohama Geolander M / T G003
The tires replace the Geolandar M / T + G001C, which was first released in 2004. In contrast to its predecessor, the rubber offers improved off-road performance, increased comfort, and wear resistance. At the same time, Japanese experts note that the aggressive and pronounced tread design will especially appeal to fans of high-speed and extreme movement on dirt roads and off-road. The reinforced carcass of the Yokohama Geolander M / T G003 and optimally balanced rubber raw materials ensure a long service life of the tire even with constant off-road use. It should be noted that the tire is highly resistant to damage and deformation. Thus, frequent driving over irregularities of the surface, as well as stones, do not lead to punctures and damage to the tire. Auto wheels do a good job of transporting goods due to their perfect design.
The tread of the Yokohama Geolandar MT G003 mud tire differs from analogs by the presence of many blocks of a special shape. So the central part of the rubber consists of separated elements of a curved and broken shape. At the same time, the parts are located at a significant distance from each other, which guarantees improved penetration into the ground surface and dirt. Since the wheel elements have a special shape on the tread, an additional number of grip edges are formed, which improves the contact of the rubber with the road surface.
The tread pattern of Geolandar M / T G003 provides the ability to travel even on the most difficult terrain, improves maneuverability on swampy terrain and in mud, improves ride comfort on asphalt roads, and helps to reduce the noise level generated by the tire when rolling.
In addition, the muddy Yokohama G003 tires offer outstanding durability and high wear resistance. The tires first hit the market in Japan in late summer 2017, after which the European, Asian and American markets were eagerly awaiting deliveries. This tire is presented as a high-performance rubber for driving on dirt roads and mud. The characteristic aggressive image on the tread and its massive elements at the first glance at the tires make it clear that the cross-country ability is at the highest level.
The mud tires are equipped with a highly efficient drainage system. The increased width of the grooves, as well as their sufficient depth, allows for the capture and removal of increased amounts of water and dirt.
Yokohama has listened to the opinion of future buyers when creating new tires, and the company says that these are exactly the tires that today's market needs. The tires received a new rubber compound, three-layer sidewalls (in LT sizes), and a hexagonal bead core for added durability. The flotation has been improved with new tread blocks, square open shoulders, and additional lugs on the sidewalls. “Three-layer sidewalls are available on all E and D load index tires and are designed to be puncture-free even in rough use,” says Bob Abrams, Yokohama Product Planning Manager.
The fact that Yokohama has taken into account the wishes of the drivers can be seen in the tread design of the new tires. Optimized void ratio, modified lamellas, special stone and dirt repellents - everything was done following the requirements of off-road enthusiasts. The sipes have a depth of 80% of the tread thickness, and the pattern has a variable pitch, which should reduce the noise level.
“The wide and flat contact patch has improved the uniformity of the load distribution,” explains Abrams. "If the loads are evenly distributed, there will be fewer hot spots in the tread, and the heat and friction will shorten the tire's life."
According to Yokohama, the tires have been tested by an independent organization that compared them with competitors in various conditions. Tests showed that the Yokohama's wet braking distances averaged 15.5 meters shorter than other tires, but unfortunately the company chose not to publish the test report.
Especially for the new tires, a new advertising slogan was invented, which does not need the translation - Go Strong. According to Fred Koplin, Marketing Director for Yokohama America, the slogan is suitable for all tires in the Geolandar family, and it is addressed to those who enjoy outdoor activities, as well as those who are racing or who love climbing or traveling in the wild.
