The Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tire is designed for SUVs and crossovers. Designed for use throughout the year and therefore has improved grip on slippery roads from water and snow.
Zigzag slots
The performance of the tire on snow and icy surfaces is largely due to the increased tread content of the traction edges. Most of them are formed not by blocks, but by lamellas cut into them. Their zig-zag shape further enhances traction and, by limiting block movement, improves handling.
Improved wet grip
The tread pattern is saturated with drainage grooves. They are located both longitudinally and transversely. This minimizes the risk of aquaplaning at almost any speed, which provides even more reliable wet grip.
Cornering stability
The side of the shoulder blocks contains special slots, which, due to the unusualness of this solution, received their own name - TredLock. The essence of the technology lies in the formation of additional edges with significant lateral accelerations. In tight corners, the tire grips the road better while maintaining slip resistance.
Additional belt layer
Much of the versatility of this model comes from the extra breaker layer. It is made from DuPont Kevlar. This material is distinguished by its exceptional mechanical strength, elasticity, and low weight. At the same time, modern winding methods made it possible to create a one-piece structure without any joints and seams with a very dense arrangement of Kevlar fibers. The practical result of this decision is the “signature” softness on the road, which has always distinguished off-road tires from Goodyear as well as reliability in the most adverse operating conditions.
Reinforced sidewalls
Another design feature that makes the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A® tire extremely durable is its reinforced sidewalls. They have a multi-layered structure. In this case, the outer layer is made of a more rigid compound, resistant to mechanical stress. In addition, the reinforced sidewall construction allows the use of a tire with a reduced pressure inside, which significantly expands its capabilities off-road.
Good traction properties on earthy and sandy soils
This model is equipped with an open design, non-directional tread pattern. It contains many blocks, of which only three are formed but at the same time very wide longitudinal ribs. In the shoulder areas of the tread, they are located at a considerable distance, being collected in groups of two separate elements. This design provides the tire with excellent longitudinal traction and traction, especially on soils with reduced load-bearing capacity, which also has a positive effect on flotation.
Rim protection
In addition to the multi-layer reinforced structure, the sidewalls of this model are distinguished by the original structure of the rim. It is designed to keep dirt, stones, and other foreign matter out of between the wheel rim and the tire rim. This feature significantly increases the service life even in harsh off-road conditions.
Good highway performance
The tread pattern of this tire contains many individual blocks grouped into three longitudinal ribs. These building blocks are characterized by unbreakable construction and massive dimensions. This design features significantly improves several performance properties, most of which are most pronounced when driving at high speed on hard surfaces. First of all, this is directional stability, speed, and accuracy in response to driver actions, resistance to uneven wear, as well as fuel efficiency.
Main features of the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tire
- Numerous zigzag grooves improve traction on snow and icy surfaces, especially during acceleration and braking;
- the minimum risk of aquaplaning at almost any speed is ensured by the large number and multidirectional arrangement of drainage grooves;
- cornering stability thanks to TredLock sipes on the side of the shoulder blocks.
Goodyear Wrangler SR-A® longitudinal grooves and deep sipes increase traction; the tread pattern is optimized to reduce noise levels, and a special compound reduces rolling resistance.
Goodyear is strengthening its position in other segments as well, and it was announced in Dallas that the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A® road tires have been available in additional sizes for commercial vans. “We listened to customers and realized that we could meet the growing demand,” said Mr. Dwyer.
More than 600,000 full-size commercial vans have been sold in the US in the past two years, he said, and the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A® is the perfect fit for this segment because of its durability and capacity to handle increased loads. In addition, the tires also help to reduce noise levels, and the multiple grip edges have improved traction on snow.
Goodyear Wrangler SR-A®. Goodyear performed better than expected in the early tests and was clearly better than the M / T tires. The 4-rib pattern, closely spaced blocks, and deep sipes allow the tread to grip and hold snow long enough for effective acceleration and braking. In the traction test, Goodyear outperformed both off-road tires, but they still couldn't reach the winter tires.
The high tractive effort, fast acceleration. Average braking properties. Good steering response, but the grip on the front axle is quickly lost at high lateral cornering loads. If the rear wheels are in a skid, traction recovers very slowly.
