Barum VANIS 2 - a commercial tire with an extended range

The commercial tires of the Barum VANIS 2 series are excellent for light-duty trucks, vans, minivans, and pickups. Tires have a hardened internal structure for increased carrying capacity and shock resistance. The extended tire life is due to the optimized contact patch shape and improved rubber compounding.

Central double rib

Car summer tires Barum Vanis 2 are equipped with non-directional tread. Its central part is presented in the form of two longitudinal ribs. Each of them consists of rubber blocks connected in pairs, arranged in a checkerboard pattern. On the surfaces of the rubber blocks, deep sipes are provided, which enhance the grip of the wheels with the road surface.

While driving at high speed along a straight path, the central ribs stabilize the vehicle's directional stability. These functional elements also contribute to shorter braking distances and improved acceleration dynamics.

Optimized contact patch

When designing the Barum VANIS 2, the engineers paid special attention to the shape and size of the contact patch. Thanks to the optimized arrangement of the tread blocks, a more even distribution of loads are ensured. This, in turn, prevents uneven abrasive wear on the center and shoulder areas of the tread.

Drainage system

Unfavorable weather conditions practically do not affect the performance of the Barum Vanis 2 tires. When driving in rainy and slushy weather, the tires confidently hold a grip on the road, providing instant wheel response to steering commands and safe braking. This is due to the presence of a full-fledged aquadrainage system on the tread.

The drainage is carried out using three longitudinal channels and a plurality of intersecting transverse grooves. These grooves improve fluid circulation in the contact patch, preventing slippery water film from forming under the wheels.

Acoustic comfor.

As you know, the previous model caused criticism in terms of noise and vibration. The new tread pattern has significantly reduced the scope of the problem. In addition to the classic technique in the form of a different pitch of tread blocks, the company's specialists have placed special dead-end grooves in the shoulder areas of the tread. They are located on the inner side of the shoulder areas, which prevents noise from spreading outside the tread.

When driving a car equipped with Barum VANIS 2 tires, the driver will not experience discomfort due to loud noises coming from under the wheels. The tires of this series have excellent acoustic characteristics and are characterized by low noise. This is due to the carefully designed shoulder tread design.

S-shaped tread design

Tire Barum Vanis 2 received a completely new design of the tread pattern, which in many ways provided it with excellent grip characteristics, but at the same time depriving it of the opportunity to overcome areas without asphalt pavement. Those. This tire is designed to be used exclusively on paved roads. Like its predecessor, the tire tread is replete with many individual blocks, but their shape and location have become completely different. The choice in favor of the S-shaped tread design is driven by the desire to provide the tire with a balance between handling, comfort, and durability.

The tread pattern, like most competitors, consists of four longitudinal ribs formed by two rows of blocks in the central part of the tread and two shoulder zones. The two longitudinal ribs located in the center are made up of separate blocks. These tread elements are characterized by a complex configuration with many angles and sharp edges. Combined with its massive dimensions, this has significantly improved braking performance on dry surfaces.

Regarding rain conditions, here the shoulder tread zones come into play, also divided by drainage channels into separate blocks. But unlike the blocks located in the central part of the tread, their edges are longer and are located almost perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the wheel. As a result, the tire exhibits shorter braking distances, especially on wet roads, compared to most competitors.

Another key feature of the Barum Vanis 2 is the nearly flat tread profile. This allowed us to give it several significant advantages. First of all, it is a more uniform distribution of external pressure over the contact patch. This not only improved handling characteristics, which became more reliable and predictable but also significantly reduced the likelihood of developing such a negative phenomenon as uneven tread wear. The latter circumstance made it possible to significantly improve the service life of the tire.

The model replaced Barum Vanis, but differs from it:

  •     5% higher grip and 8% higher fuel efficiency;
  •     Reduced by 7% braking distance;
  •     Improved 9% handling and 6% directional stability;
  •     Increased by 11% resistance to wear;
  •     Reduced noise production by 4%;
  •     12% longer service life.

As you can see, the new version has significantly surpassed its predecessor. However, the novelty is distinguished by even higher performance characteristics. The changes also affected the drainage grooves of the Barum Vanis 2 tire. Their location is much more thoughtful, therefore, the volumes allow evacuating a significant amount of water, eliminating the threat of loss of control due to aquaplaning.

Resistant to aquaplaning

Unlike the previous generation tire, the Barum Vanis 2 resists aquaplaning significantly better. This was achieved thanks to three wide grooves located longitudinally along with the entire tread. The increased dimensions allow for a significantly larger volume of water, which is then discharged through a system of transverse channels to the outside of the tread. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent aquaplaning resistance even on very wet roads.

The Barum Vanis 2 model is a logical continuation of the Vanis series, which motorists love so much. To improve the performance, the developers had to work hard to update the rubber compound, and slightly change the tread design. As a result, it was possible to achieve a complete harmony of all parameters that do not harm each other.

What was used in the Vanis 2 tire?

The compound has not changed much, but the proportions of the components have been revised. Thanks to this, the tire's wear resistance and its efficiency have increased.

The Barum Vanis 2 summer tire tread has a classic design. The blocks are placed symmetrically and create a single working area of the tire, where you can observe all the necessary coupling and aquadrainage components. Three deep grooves run along with the entire tread. The ability to hold a larger volume of water in them, and then instantly drain the liquid through the drainage system of the transverse edges, improved aquaplaning resistance, even on too wet roads. When the developers modified the drainage elements, they noticed that there was a quite natural decrease in the braking distance on surfaces flooded with water.

In the center of the tread are two massive chains of rounded blocks. These elements have multiple corners and sharp edges, which, combined with their rather large dimensions, improve braking performance on dry asphalt. To avoid damage when colliding with curbs, the manufacturer has reinforced the sidewall of the tire.

Sidewall protection

Since the tire is intended for light-duty trucks, the operation of which takes place mainly in urban conditions, the Czech tire workers have taken several measures to protect the most vulnerable part of the tire. We are talking about its sidewalls, which have received special thickenings. This made it possible to significantly increase the resistance to aggressive effects of concrete curbs.

The tread pattern resembles the “S” symbol. The choice of this design is driven by the desire for a balance between durability, good handling, and comfort. However, the tire shows good performance only on asphalt surfaces.
