Yokohama tires are an example of stability and maneuverability in all road and weather conditions and an ideal compromise for drivers who use the car both in the city and on snowy roads.
The Yokohama Ice Guard IG52c is a studless, environmentally friendly winter passenger car tire designed for low-temperature use on dry, wet, snowy, and icy roads.
The Ice Guard IG52c tread is made up of a blend of resin-coated absorbent silica and multi-layer carbon that allows them to adapt to different weather conditions by reducing slippage in snow and ice and providing long-term durability. Wide center ribs and large shoulder blocks provide maximum contact and stability on dry roads. Specially designed water repellent grooves effectively push snow and water out, improving traction on slippery winter roads. The inner structure of the tire features double steel straps and a polyester cord for durability and ride comfort.
The most inexpensive tires in the test. Despite the last place, they can be considered very good tires, and in winter conditions they will be much better than any all-season tire. They lost the most points in the snow handling test, where they demonstrated pleasant predictability when braking and cornering. These are very stable tires that will not bring any unpleasant surprises. The disadvantage is the very weak traction, also not very efficient on ice, where they were only able to overtake Dunlop.
The outdated Yokohama Ice Guard IG20 has finally made way for a new tire. In keeping with the brand's reputation, Yokohama tires performed well on ice and dry asphalt and slightly worse on snowy surfaces.
Original V-shaped tread pattern
One of the innovations of this model was the tread pattern, which was also developed using modern computer modeling tools. In its central part, there is a very wide longitudinal rib, made up of numerous arrow-shaped blocks connected by rigid bridges. Such a structure made it possible, on the one hand, to provide the tire with excellent directional stability and low rolling resistance, and on the other, to further improve grip, due to the presence of many multidirectional grip edges.
The main features of the winter tire
- wide central rib provides excellent directional stability and low rolling resistance;
- the number of adhesion edges, formed not only by blocks but also by multifaceted 3D-lamellas, many times increased in comparison with the previous model;
- shoulder areas with blocks equipped with special "digging" elements, provide excellent cross-country ability in deep snow.
