CS5 Grand Touring

CS5 Grand Touring is Cooper’s standard all-season tire. It was specially developed for coupe, sedan, and crossover drivers. The vision for this tire model was to truly create a revolutionary tire that will not be compared to anything else on the market. The manufacturers were hoping that in all weather conditions, even on light snow, they can combine a comfortable ride and stable handling with confident traction combined.

The CS5 Grand Touring uses matched silica compounds, which were molded in an asymmetric pattern. This allows the pattern to be rotated left and right to prevent uneven wear. The outer shoulders of the tire use larger tread blocks and less space for lateral traction and manipulation. The ribs and inner shoulders of the tire use higher density sipes, side grooves, and more open space to help with hydroplaning in rainy conditions. This provides traction under sliding and a confident hydroplaning resistance. Full-depth 3D Micro-Gauge sipes, which are located across the entire tread of the tire, create the bite edges which are needed for grip on low-friction surfaces such as light snow.

The internal structure of CS5 Grand Touring consists of a high-turning single-layer polyester skeleton under two high-strength steel belts. The spiral wound nylon reinforcement was implemented to improve handling responsiveness and contribute to high-speed durability.

Cooper's CS5 Grand Touring tires are specifically designed for today's passenger cars, minivans, SUVs and crossovers, and are designed to provide superior performance for everyday driving. Let’s take a much closer look into the CS5 Grand Touring’s features to understand them better.

Special Features

  • 3D Micro-Gauge Siping- The specially designed 3D Micro Gauge sipe allows the tread blocks to interlock to provide maximum stability to improve traction, handling, and safety, even when the tire is half worn. 3D Micro-Gauge Siping is Cooper's trademark technology for stabilizing tread elements and providing responsive control. They extend the entire depth of the tread that can be used, which also improves the appearance of wear and helps to achieve uniform tread wear throughout the life of the tire. 3D Micro-Gauge Grooves is an innovative technology that allows the elements of the tire tread to interlock and stabilize the tread. This maximizes the contact between the tread and the road surface for better grip in wet conditions and light snow, resulting in excellent handling and traction. Full-depth 3D micro-gauge groove across the entire coverage area creates the undercut needed for grip on low-friction surfaces, such as light snow.
  • Wear Square Visual Indicators - As the tires wear, the gauges will change. This makes it easy to determine remaining tread life or mechanical issues that cause uneven wear. It provides you with visible comfort, confidence, and safety. Wear Square is a visual wear indicator. The way it works is that as your tire wears, the shape of the visual wear indicator changes, allowing you to estimate the remaining tread life of your tire. Knowing the approximate tread life of a tire can give you more confidence in the vehicle. If Wear Square inside and outside are at different stages, it means there may be a wheel alignment problem, please seek professional services. Finally, the CS5 Ultra Touring tire Wear Square technology, allows you to see how many miles of the footprint is left in the lifetime of your tire. Many drivers find this particular feature extremely useful.

So as you can see, the features are pretty impressive. The technology which was designed for this tire uses a next-generation silica tread compound. It was specially designed to provide performance in all types of road conditions. Cooper's new technology uses four times more silica in the CS5 model than in any other model of their tires. This in turn provides such amazing results, which can be shown through shorter stopping distances, greater acceleration, lower fuel consumption, and, of course, better overall traction.

The advanced 5-rib asymmetric tread pattern, which is used in this tire model, reduces uneven tread wear. It also promotes the left-to-right rotation of the tire. The rim also has a 3D micro-gauge groove, which allows the rim to be locked to provide greater stability on the road. Of course, this also means that you will get better performance on wet or snowy roads. This tire performs very well in various weather conditions. The Cooper CS5 Grand Touring tires are available in a variety of sizes from 15 to 18 inches and come with a good 80,000-mile treadwear guarantee.

Cooper has a long history of providing quality tires, and its new CS5 Grand Touring follows this line. Equipped with a variety of new technologies, this new model is among the best in the class of all-season cruisers.

This tire has an improved silica design, 3D micro-gauge grooves, and asymmetric tread. The tires of this model have excellent grip on wet and dry roads. This tire has a large capacity to handle a variety of weather conditions, such as towing and braking in light to medium snow, sleet, and softer ice, besides other listed examples.

The ride someone will experience using this tire is very comfortable and the road noise is almost non-existent. The facts have shown that Tread Life is very good and Cooper also offers excellent warranty service. Overall, CS5 Grand Touring is a good choice for owners of coupes, cars, minivans, and crossovers.

I bought them for my Murano and can say that they are better in the summertime, rather winter, as they are high-end all season tire. I liked them, but don’t understand people who write they are so bad on icy roads, yeap they aren’t designed for snow. Also, a little noisy and not as comfortable as Goodyear or Toyo!
