The Maxxis M8060 Trepador radial is the clever compromise for when you want a bit meaner tires but doesn’t put up with the disadvantages of extreme tires in normal day-to-day use on hard roads. The developers of this model managed to achieve acceptable quietness and comfort on the asphalt, tenacity on slippery graders, confidence on loose soils, and softness on bumpy roads with very strong sidewalls from an aggressive "tree" with large checkers. Another plus of rubber with a radial carcass is a higher resource when driving on hard roads in comparison with diagonal counterparts.
In Spanish, Trepador can be either a noun or an adjective. In the first case, it is translated as "steeplejack", in the second as "creeping". Both meanings correctly reflect the capabilities of the M8060. In the mountains, this durable rubber allows you to safely climb rocky steeps without fear of tearing the sidewalls, and in mud, its grip properties are sufficient to overcome the lion's share of average obstacles in tension. At the same time, even in muddy clay under the shower, the car will adequately obey the steering wheel and, despite the slopes of the terrain, will continue, clinging to the last, go where the driver directs it.
The depth and adhesion properties of the tread of the radial "trepadors" turned out to be optimal for use in civilian mode: on the one hand, the tires adhere well to viscous and slippery ground, on the other hand, they allow you to drive without fear with intensive slipping and forgive gross mistakes with excessive gas. Despite the moderate relief of the sidewalls, the M8060 confidently walks along deep ruts, and if forward movement already fails, Maxxis in most cases leaves good chances to return backward in its tracks and find a detour on an unsuccessful trajectory. The tires do an excellent job with rocks, confidently overcome viscous clay, work with dignity on loose sand and gravel, and hold up decently on weak soils. In general, the M8060 performs well in a wide range of off-road conditions. For constant use in winter, this rubber, like the vast majority of MTs, is not recommended, although if necessary, you can safely conquer deep snow with the Trepador - the tread here is relatively soft and with large sipes.
In terms of its resource, this Maxxis does not stand out in either direction. It grinds at an average pace by the standards of mud tires and fairly evenly in speed, but the development on the checkers usually goes in steps, which is why, with wear, the handling, as well as the driving and acoustic comfort on hard roads, proportionally decrease. Interestingly, at the same time, working qualities on the off-road suffer to a much lesser extent.
The Maxxis M8060 Trepador Radial is very close to extreme tires in its extreme capabilities in mud, although it does not cross the MT / XT class boundary. But in terms of the sum of the characteristics, for many, this option will be preferable: on this rubber, it is easier to combine complex off-road races with the everyday urban operation.
Radial Maxxis can be recommended to the ever-busy jeep who loves to make some incredible off-road raid, but, for various reasons, usually gets out only for short-distance rides.
