The Goodyear UltraGrip 8 Performance non-studded winter tire is a worthy successor to the highly successful UltraGrip 7 model, which until recently enjoyed great popularity among motorists in the Nordic countries. This model is available in more than three dozen standard sizes with bore sizes from 15 to 19 inches. The high technical characteristics of this tire are evidenced by the very high-speed indexes H and V for this category, which is assigned to this model.
As with the previous model, the UltraGrip 8 Performance tire tread is built in full accordance with one of the most famous technologies of the company V-TRED. This name hides the V-shaped design of the directional symmetrical tread pattern. This arrangement of the tread elements has provided the tire with many advantages, especially on slippery surfaces.
In particular, it was possible to provide a large area of the contact patch, while ensuring the stability of its dimensions, regardless of the mode of movement and the nature of the roadway. This results in superior grip and handling in all conditions. In addition, the V-shaped tread pattern most effectively copes with the removal of water and melted snow from the contact patch, which allows you to move confidently even in the most adverse conditions. The technology of a three-dimensional system of interlocking of tread blocks has made it possible to significantly increase the number of sipes, which means obtaining an additional set of sharp engagement edges. Due to them, it was possible to significantly improve grip on snow and ice. As you know, sipes are deep cuts made in the tread blocks. In this tire, the walls of the sipes have a lot of protuberances, which touching each other during movement, are fixed in the corresponding recesses on the opposite wall of the sipe. Thanks to this, at the moment of contact of the tire with the road surface, the tread blocks acquire additional rigidity, due to which the grip and handling on dry roads are improved.
A special Cool Cushion technology has been applied to maintain the tire's basic performance in warm weather. It consists of the fact that an additional layer is placed under the protector, which contributes to more efficient heat dissipation. This protects the rubber compound from the damaging effects of high temperatures.
Another innovation is the new generation of rubber compounds. Its composition is distinguished by a combination of functional polymers and a silicon-containing component of silica.
