Barum Polaris 3 is a mid-range winter tire for passenger cars and SUVs, which, in addition to good grip on winter surfaces, as well as on wet and dry asphalt, is characterized by the ability to optimize fuel consumption.

The Barum Polaris 3, just like its predecessor, has a symmetrical directional tread pattern, which is traditional for winter tires. Thanks to the special shape of the annular channels and the inclined grooves converging to the center, it provides quick self-cleaning of the tread from water and snow, positively affecting the stability and braking efficiency of the tire on a wet surface. The shape of the circumferential drainage channels facilitates rapid capture and retention of snow, thereby increasing grip in winter conditions.

The absence of anti-skid studs in no way prevents the Barum Polaris 3 from interacting well with snow surfaces, including packed snow, since all tread blocks are covered with a multitude of multidirectional three-dimensional sipes that enhance the edge effect and grip of the model during acceleration and braking.

More comfort at the wheel. Low noise level is ensured by the structure of tread blocks of different sizes. The different sipe depths help to optimize the distribution of stiffness, thereby reducing the level of tread wear. The even distribution of stiffness in the block elements guarantees the Polaris 3 lower wear and, therefore, an economically high mileage. Wide shoulder blocks provide good wet stability. Lower rolling resistance, which optimizes the vehicle's fuel consumption and reduces the environmental impact, is provided in this friction winter tire by a new generation of silico rubber compounds. By reducing rolling resistance, also provides additional wet grip for the fifth Polaris.

Differs in reliable grip on winter roads and wet surfaces. They are characterized by reduced rolling resistance and optimized fuel consumption. The central position in the tread is occupied by twin blocks equipped with a network of sipes that enhance the edge effect. Thanks to this, not only the stability of the vehicle behavior is achieved, but also the traction in winter conditions is increased.

Wide shoulder blocks are designed to stabilize the vehicle during maneuvering. This also applies to high speed, at which there is no risk of skidding. Since this is a young model in the tire market, the Barum Polaris 3 tires have not been tested by experts in the automotive industry. An important parameter showing its performance on snow is the 3PMSF symbol, which guarantees excellent grip in winter conditions.

Reviews of the Barum Polaris 3 indicate that it is a recommended tire with an attractive appearance that affects the overall appearance of the vehicle. Works great on dry and wet roads, on fresh and packed snow, as well as on ice. Thanks to its exquisite design, it does not cause skidding and ensures precise control of the vehicle.

Drivers praise this tire for its softness and good absorption of road irregularities. They are quiet and comfortable even at high speeds. Their low rolling resistance contributes to fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions, making them popular with environmentalists.

To reduce the risk of aquaplaning and slash planning, a developed network of canals is provided, which has a directional symmetrical arrangement. Thanks to this, excess moisture are quickly removed from the area in contact with the road, ensuring a reliable grip.

Lamellas with different depths provide an increase or decrease in stiffness. This achieves a large contact area, which is reflected in minimized abrasion and durability.

Main features of Barum Polaris 3

- the model can be installed on both off-road vehicles and light vehicles;

- contains silica, which has a positive effect on rolling resistance, minimizing fuel consumption;

- has a symmetrical directional tread pattern, contributing to the rapid drying of the contact area;

- provides stable control, both when driving in a straight line and during maneuvering.

The new Barum will be bought by car drivers and SUV enthusiasts (including the Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Volvo XC60, Hyundai Tucson, and Nissan Qashqai). The manufacturer probably doesn't like the number "4" very much, because it skipped the fourth generation, immediately showing the world the fifth installment of the "Polaris" series.

How does the Barum Polaris 3 differ from its predecessor?

First of all, a decrease in the coefficient of friction leads to more stable driving in winter conditions, an increase in mileage, a decrease in fuel consumption, and easier cornering. It should also be remembered that lower rolling resistance reduces the negative impact of exhaust gases on the environment.

For the production of Barum Polaris 3 tires, a new generation of rubber compound is used, which uses the silicas known from premium tires.

The rating on the EU label, which has been improved over its predecessor, also guarantees a better-wet grip. This is thanks to the wide shoulder tire blocks, which, in addition to mentioning improved safety, are also responsible for reducing vibration and noise while driving.

Also three-dimensional sipes (narrow slots) of various depths, which are responsible for the phenomenon of "catching snow" and improve the grip of the car when starting and accelerating.

The special shape of the channels converging towards the center, additionally inclined at an angle of 15 ° and 75 °, leads to the fact that the tread acquires self-cleaning properties, removing excess water and snow from its surface. How about the similarities? Like its predecessor, the Barum Polaris 3 has a directional tread pattern (traditional for winter tires) and a dense network of small grooves known as sipes.

Tests and opinions

We'll have to wait until fall for the first ADAC, Auto Bild, or AMS test results. As soon as the first reports of organizations or car clubs appear, we will immediately publish them. As far as drivers' opinions go, the point is that the first credible reviews on discussion forums or social media will appear at the end of the year. Also, I will not miss them and post the most subjective opinions here on the blog. In the meantime, I refer to the section with tests of winter tires of all the most popular sizes.

This time we'll start with the noise level outside the car. The Polaris 3 model has a volume ranging from 71 to 73 decibels depending on its size. Let me remind you that the measurement is carried out on a vehicle traveling at 80 km / h. In terms of wet performance, all the Barum winter tires available have received a C rating, which is good. Fuel combustion looks a little worse, that is, the so-called rolling resistance. Although it has been improved over its predecessor, it received an E (fair) rating for most sizes compared to the F in the Polaris 3.

On the plus side, it is certainly a fact that in some of the most popular sizes (including 195) / 65 R15 and 205/55 R16) the Barum Polaris 3 received a "C" rating (good).

Winter tires guarantee Barum

The Polaris 3 is covered by a 60-month warranty from the date of manufacture.
